Ich höre sehr gerne auch den frühen Sinatra mit Dorsey und James.Die Big Band Arrangments machen Spass und bringen FS wunderbar zur Geltung.Leider hat er bei der Columbiazeit wenig fetzigen Big Band Jazz gemacht.Die Radioaufnahmen aus dieser frühen Zeit intressieren mich sehr.

Von der alten Coloumbia Zeit mag ich das "The Voice of" Album,dass habe ich ja schon mal vorgestellt.Ansonsten hast du da nicht unrecht, aber auch das gibs viel zu entdecken.Leider hat ab 49 unter Mitch Miller auch viel Schrott gesungen.

Meine Lieblingsphase ist von 53 bis 65 hier machte FS jeden Song zum Standard und liefert definitive Versionen ab.Das "All Alone" ist sicherlich eines der schwächeren Alben unter den vielen starken Alben.

Danach so ab 66 bis 71 folgte eine sehr gemischte Zeit.Das Musikbuisness änderte sich, die Beatles haben da deutlich Spuren hinterlassen.Man ging über größere Hallen zu buchen und nahm verstärkt Rock Instrumente ab.Langsame und sentimentale Lieder waren eher weniger gefragt.Sinatra behauptete sich herrovorragend und hatte einige Megahits, die seine Stellung zementierten.

Die Musik ist sehr gemischt und FS machte einiges was nicht zu ihm musikalisch passte.Die Highlights für mich aus der Phase sind das Ellington Album und das erste Bossa Nova Album. Der Tiefpunkt war That´s Life, diese Album leidet unter dem schlechten Sound und schlagerartige Arrangments. Das "We knew" Album ist schon eine Stufe besser, bessere Songauswahl, aber zu seinem besten Alben zählt es meiner Meinung nach nicht.

Ich bin mit "Watertown" und "A man Alone" auch nicht warm geworden.

Die beiden Comeback Alben varieren auch stark zwischen erstklassigen Songs bis sehr schwachen Songs.

Beim Trilogy Album haben wir einen stimmlichen starken Sinatra mit großartigen Songs wie z.b "You and Me" und "Summer me, winter me".Leider kann ich mit Trilogy auch wenig anfangen.Sinatra war vieles, aber sicher kein Moralapostel und Weltverbesserer.

Mögt ihr die Mode vom FS?

Geht bei mir auch nicht.

Die Frage, ob mir Franks Mode gefällt, oder eher sein Modeauftritt, kann ich nur zwiespältig beantworten - tendenziell eher ja, Franks Auftritt ist in der Hinsicht schon sehr, sehr gut, aber mir gefällt die Männermode nicht aus allen Jahrzehnten seiner Laufbahn. Beim jungen Frank gefällt mir die Mode sowieso nicht, und Franks Auftritt noch weniger - aber das hat sich dann schnell gedreht.

In der Phase, in der mir die Männermode aus der Vergangenheit am besten gefällt (Ende 50-er, bis Mitte 60-er - also solange die Revers und Krawatten eher schmal waren), war Frank einer der stilsichersten Akteuere des Show-Biz, und man hat so das Gefühl, als hätte er da auch am Filmset ganz gerne mitgeredet.
Gerade in dem Zusammenhang sollte man aber Dino nicht unterschätzen - die absolute Ikone jener Phase ist aber sowieso Cary Grant.

Wenn mir da was wirklich gefällt, und ich denke sogar, dass die 3 genannten Herrschaften (und Kennedy) tatsächlich stilprägend waren, dann ist es die Art, wie sie einerseits extrem korrekt gekleidet waren, aber dennoch die Strenge herausgenommen haben. Also diese Mischung aus Korrektheit und Lockerheit - quasi die Brücke zwischen Fred Astaire und Robert Mitchum - ich glaub die Modemenschen würden sagen, sie brachten Casual-Elemente ein.

Ganz sicher eine Rolle haben sie bei der Veränderung von korrekter Freizeitkleidung gespielt. Dieser Ostküsten-Freizeitlook hat sich ja quasi durchgesetzt. Diese Kombination aus meist heller, ungemusterter Hose und Polohemd kommt ja von der Ostküste, und da waren unsere Helden (samt Kennedy) sicher stilbildend. Und das gefällt mir auch gut.

Ich bin ja kein Modespezialist, aber eines ist mir Mal untergekommen: Die Modewelt sprach hier eine Zeitlang von der Sinatra-Weste. Also da war er offensichtlich tatsächlich stilprägend - vermutlich mehr als bei Hüten.

Alle Sinatrafans tragen eh gerne Anzüge mit Fliege und trinken auch gern einen Jack Daniels,dass ist ohnehin allgemein bekannt.

Das halte ich aber für ein Gerücht, Alex... (und fände es ehrlich gesagt auch ziemlich bescheuert, wenn das so wäre, also daß alle das täten).

He had amazing potential and talent but didn't display it in his silly films and his "one take" mentality made it hard for his performances to really shine except in films where he gave a damn about the role where his facial expressions and acting were just perfect and sensational.

He has them all in the palm of his hand and his subtle coughs and trembling of his voice in ballads just make you sink in further. Some of his most heartbreaking performances are live. His fast paced numbers bring even more joy because the anticipation and rapture from the audience bounces off them on to Sinatra and they both feed off each other's incredible energy.

Yes, definitely his views on racism and helping others in general are true role model qualities. He was not a saint but he sure did a lot to help coloured musicians and civil rights in general from early on (the 30's) which could have been detrimental to his career as he started doing this in a very unfashionable time even when he was not a big star. I really like reading his Ebony magazine interview from 1958. It really shows what type of man he was at heart. He also helped out people with less than, than him anonymously as we famously now know. He made a difference in this world.

They offer a place for fans to learn, discuss and discover new things about Sinatra's music and life and help new fans learn more about the man and his music and life.
